Water Supply and Sanitation Office

According to Schedule 4 of the Constitution of Nepal, promulgated on Ashoj 3, 2072 B.S. (September 20, 2015), Nepal was divided into seven provinces. Province No. 5 includes the districts of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta West), Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Palpa, Arghakhanchi, Gulmi, Eastern Rukum, Rolpa, Banke, Dang, and Bardiya.

To improve service delivery and transportation management, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development was established on 2074/10/19 B.S. (February 2, 2018). The ministry was founded to support the overall economic development of the province and enhance the standard of living through the construction of infrastructure related to provincial roads, housing, buildings, urban development, water resources, irrigation, drinking water, sanitation, and basic services.

Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Offices

Initially, five Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Offices were providing services under this province. Currently, such offices have been established in all 12 districts of the province. Among them, the Drinking Water and Sanitation Office in Banke is one.

Objectives of the Banke Drinking Water and Sanitation Office

This office was formed to implement drinking water and sanitation-related programs within the district. Its main objectives include:

  • Formulating, selecting, constructing, implementing, monitoring, and inspecting plans based on periodic strategies and ministry-approved annual programs.
  • Managing clean drinking water as a basic necessity for the people.
  • Reducing diseases and epidemics caused by the lack of clean drinking water.
  • Raising public awareness about sanitation.
  • Providing clean and quality drinking water and sanitation facilities in areas identified as necessary within Banke district.

 Establishment and Jurisdiction

This office, under the provincial government, was established in 2076 B.S. (2019/2020 A.D.). Its jurisdiction covers the entire Banke district.
